  • 9/11 Attacks – how the exchange was the first to reopen in the aftermath of the September 11 catastrophe
  • The launch of NYMEX ClearPort trading
  • The war between NYMEX and ICE – the full battle from 2000-2007, effect on the world market, who won the battle and why
  • NYMEX deliberations regarding the purchase of ICE and how ICE ended up trading from within NYMEX headquarters
  • How the commodities industry and traders have been affected by the onset of electronic trading
  • The launch of the Dubai Mercantile Exchange, Dublin, and London Exchanges
  • Trading strategies and techniques
  • Risk/ Reward in trading and business
  • Successfully navigating business dealings and negotiations conducted under extreme pressure, and how to deal with adverse situations as well as severe meltdowns
  • Additional case studies of actions taken by the Board of the world’s largest commodities exchange, including how these actions affected the economy

During these lectures, David presents all of the factors and political issues that NYMEX faced when making each of their milestone decisions. Before revealing the decisions made by NYMEX, he allows the audience to formulate their own decisions. After the audience has framed up their answers, David reveals NYMEX’s decisions and explains the reasoning behind each one. He shows that the outcome of these decisions was not always what was expected, nor was the risk that accompanied them. The lecture concludes with the audience getting a true understanding of the way a Board makes decisions in high-pressure and volatile situations.
